SUMMER 2010 READING PROGRAM: THE MILLIONAIRE CLUB!
To all West U students:
Houston ISD has partnered with the Houston Public Library, Harris County Public Library, and Bellaire City Library to encourage all students to accept the challenge of reading 5 books within their Lexile range (50 points above and 100 below their Lexile measure on either TAKS or Stanford 10). This summer reading program is called The Millionaire Club. If all students in the Houston Independent School District read five books---the total adds up to ONE MILLION BOOKS! Here’s how to do it.
Register for the Houston Public Library Summer Reading Program (and other summer reading programs) online at this link:
Read at least 5 books to become a member of the Houston ISD Millionaire Club. If you read more than 10 books and join the other public library summer reading programs, you can win even more prizes!
Mrs. Kotarba, the school librarian, will give you a reading log certificate to take home. Write down the titles of the books that you have read on the back of the certificate. If you lose your certificate, you can get another one from school or at any Houston Public Library.
Have your parent sign the back of the certificate. In August, turn in your signed certificate to Mrs. Kotarba (or to the librarian at your new school). The deadline for turning in all certificates is September 10, 2010.
Some of the potential prizes will be a free Millionaire Club teeshirt, restaurant discount certificates, a buy one/get one free all-day pass to the Downtown Aquarium, and a chance to win two tickets to a Houston Astros baseball game.
