The Houston ISD databases are recommended by HISD's Department of Library Services. They are safe, accurate, age-appropriate, and advertisement/popup free.
Parents are strongly encouraged to require their children to use these databases and not commercial search engines. Internet safety is a very real concern, so by using these databases, you are protecting your child and your computer from any adverse consequences.
HISD Online Databases - databases include a search-engine called NetTrekker, BrainPop, Britannica and World Book Encyclopedias Online, Kids Searchasaurus (Ebsco) and many others. Access code and password information were sent home in September as well as published in the Pony Express. The user name is houstonisd. The password is texans. For the DIscovery Education United Streaming database you first need to enter our West University school code which is: 3CE9-D875. After that you can create your own login and password. West University Elementary Online Library Catalog - this takes you to the Dept. of Library Services Site Lists. Click on Elementary Schools. Scroll down to West University ES for direct access to our library's book collection. Look for a book or search a topic. See if the book is in or checked out before your library day!
